Our Coaches do not get many breaks during their work day. To ensure their energy level, please try and bring some of their favorite meals and/or snacks. Here is a list of some ideas.

Kelly McWhorter, Head Coach
|
Hi everyone! My
name is Kelly McWhorter and I am so excited to be returning as Head Coach to
Ygnacio Wood Swim Team. This
upcoming summer will be 5th year coaching for a total of 15
memorable summers spent on the decks of the Ygnacio Wood pool. Ygnacio has been a huge part of my life
ever since I joined the team and it is my goal to make it the exact same way
for your children. My coaching style
is centered on genuinely caring for the kids on the team and helping them swim
to the best of their abilities. As
a coach, I do my best to make sure that every swimmer has a chance to learn
something from me regarding their swimming techniques. Everyday I am on the deck, I love to
instill the same passion and enthusiasm that I have for the sport of swimming
in all of the swimmers, regardless of their age. My past 4 years coaching have exceeded my expectations and I know that my 5th year will do the same. I cannot wait to get back to coaching the team and seeing
the swimmers all day, everyday!!
Outside of Ygnacio, I keep myself very busy. I am currently at Santa Clara University
working on my Masters degree in Correctional Psychology. I am also serving as an assistant coach
for a USS team, Santa Clara Swim Club.
I have learned so much by working here and can’t wait to share my
knowledge with all of you. Swimming
has been such an integral part of my life and being able to share that same
passion and commitment with all of the swimmers on Ygnacio is an honor.

Guy Grace, Assistant Coach
| My
name is Guy Grace. I came into
the world of recreational swimming at the age of ten when I started
swimming for Dana Hills. After having spent a couple years on that
team, it became too much of a commute. I then moved to Springwood where I
spent the next two years swimming and teaching swim lessons. As I
entered high school and began to swim for De la Salle, my sister told me
she'd been swimming for Ygnacio Wood and she really enjoyed being a
part of that team. I was happy with both my prior
experiences; however I really loved the combination between high school
swimming and swimming for Ygnacio Wood. I have spent my last three summers as part of the Ygnacio Wood Swim Team and
partaking in everything it had to offer. Now I hope to give back some of
the awesome times this team provided for me.

Mike Ray, Assistant Coach

Hey team, Coach Mike here.. I’ve
been swimming for about 13 years, the last three of
which I've spent here at Ygnacio Wood. My specialty stroke is freestyle,
but I
also like
backstroke and breast stroke. I am now returning for my second season of
coaching and fun with the Mighty Seahorses of Ygnacio. After a great
season last year I can't wait to get back this summer to continue the
competition and good times. For 4 years in high school I was a
volunteer swim coach for
Special Olympics. Aside from swimming I
like
playing water polo and long boarding. I’ve been playing water polo for
about 6
years now. Its interesting to think that I first joined YW because of my
teammate Coach Guy, and now I’m so thankful for all of the friends and
great
families at Ygnacio that I have met because of water polo. I’m a
graduate of
the local high school, De La Salle, and I now attend the University of
Southern
California. I’m studying mechanical engineering and I also play club
water
polo. Interesting facts: I’m pretty awesome at Etch-a-Sketch and my
favorite
color Otter Pop is blue. |

Hannah Voegtly, Assistant Coach

Hey guys! I’m Coach Hannah and this is going to be my very
first year coaching for Ygnacio Woods Swim Team. I am currently a freshman at
Diablo Valley College, soon to be a sophomore. I have been a coach for a local
Elite Swim Team for a year.Through that I have learned how to correctly coach
individuals’ one-on-one and large groups. I have swum recreationally for 14
years, but I only had the pleasure of being a Seahorse for my last three of
those fourteen years, and savored every moment of it. I attended Ygancio Valley High School and did
Water Polo, Basketball, and Swimming all four years. I was the JV Captain my
sophomore year and Varsity Captain my senior year for both Water Polo and Basketball.
I absolutely love teaching kids how to swim and helping them
improve. Yes, we all know it’s great to get good times and get faster, but as
long as you’re having fun that’s what really counts. That is why Why-Dub is YW.
It’s the best of both worlds. I am beyond excited to start off our 2012 YW
Season!
White and Blue, Through and Through!
